Gym Hair Don’t Care: Our Favorite Sporty Hairstyles

Three women with sporty hairstyles workout on treadmills. A man is working out in the background.

We want three things out of a gym hairstyle: it has to prevent tangles, it has to stay put, and it has to look cute (you never know who you’ll see at the gym). If you’re looking for those things too, we’ve got you covered. Keep reading for our favorite sporty hairstyles for your next workout. They’re so cute that you just might want to wear them outside of the gym as well!

Double Buns

Tired of the same old topknot? Try this sporty hairstyle instead. Start by dividing hair into two equal sections. Add a small amount of Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Elixir to each section to give hair extra body. Next, twist each section into a bun at the nape of your neck. Secure them using hair pins or tie a hair tie around the base. Easy!

Rope Braid

We love this athletic hairstyle because it can easily double as an after-work updo! First, pull hair into a sleek ponytail and secure with a hair tie. Divide your ponytail into two sections. Twist the sections individually, then twist them together to create the rope braid. Secure with another hair tie, and that’s it! You’re ready to go to the gym.

Hint: this sporty hairstyle does require healthy hair to pull off. If your hair isn’t quite there yet, try Viviscal Hair Growth Supplements. Viviscal has a combination of an exclusive marine collagen complex, AminoMar™, plus key vitamins and minerals, for a complete formula that is scientifically proven to nourish hair and promote existing hair growth. With consistent use of Viviscal, men and women suffering from thinning hair achieved thicker, fuller and healthier-looking hair in 3-6 months. That’s probably why it’s the #1 clinically tested hair growth supplement in the US!‖†*

Tiered Ponytail

While the ponytail is a classic athletic hairstyle, all that hair swinging around can sometimes get in the way of a good workout. If that’s the case for you, try this sporty hairstyle instead!

Start by brushing the front section of your hair into a small ponytail at your crown and secure with a hair tie. Then, create another ponytail a couple inches below that, adding the hair from the first ponytail and securing it with a hair tie as you go. Repeat the process until you reach the nape of your neck, and pull the remaining hair into a ponytail.

Boxer Braids

Boxer braids are an excellent way to keep your hair out of your face so you can focus on your workout. That’s probably why they’re such a favorite of athletes, including boxers! Plus, when you take them out after your workout, you’ll be left with tousled, heat-free waves.

Women with ombre hair and a sporty hairstyle prepares to get up and box. Her hair is pulled back into two boxer braids.

To style boxer braids, start by brushing your hair to remove all tangles. Part hair down the middle to separate into two sections. Use a clip to keep one section out of the way while you create your first braid. Gather three small sections from your hairline. Cross the left and right strand under the middle one. Add a small piece of hair to the left section and braid under the middle section. Then add a small piece of hair to the right section, and cross underneath the middle section again. Repeat until you reach the nape of your neck and all the hair is braided. Braid the remaining hair and secure with a hair tie. Then do the same on the other side!

Hint: To help this sporty hairstyle last longer, gently tug on your hair as you go to make sure your braid is as tight as possible. Then finish the look with a misting of hairspray.
