Summer’s most-wanted hairstyle? Beach wave curls, of course! This effortless look makes us think of long sunny days lying on the sand. But this effortless look actually works just as well on the red carpet as it does in everyday life because it’s so easy to style! Keep reading to learn five simple style hacks to get perfect beach wave curls. All without a trip to the ocean!

5 Easy Styling Tricks for Perfect Beach Waves

1. The Ponytail Trick

Do you only have a few minutes to get ready in the morning? Try this hack for easy beach curls. Start by pulling hair up into a high ponytail and securing with a scrunchie (a scrunchie won’t leave a crease in your hair like a traditional elastic hair tie).

Next, use a 1-inch barrel curling wand to curl various sections in the ponytail. You don’t need to worry about the size or direction of the curls — it should look effortless! Just make sure to leave the ends straight (rather than curling all the way to the ends) for a more natural, modern look.

Allow hair to cool completely, then remove the scrunchie and finger comb through waves. If desired, curl a few face-framing pieces, then finish the look with a light mist of hairspray.

2. Flat Iron Twist

Of course, you don’t need a curling iron to create beach wave curls. If you prefer a flat iron, try this easy (and quick!) method instead.

Mist a sea salt spray onto dry hair to add texture. Part hair in the middle, then divide each side of the hair into two sections. Twist the two sections separately, then wrap them together to create a twisted cord. While holding onto the ends, clamp a flat iron onto the cord starting at the top by your roots. Run the iron down the length of the entire cord. Allow the cord to cool completely, then unravel the hair and finger comb. Repeat the process on the other side. Then mist your hair with hairspray to finish the look.

3. Air Dry with Buns

Give your hair a break from heat styling with this air-

dry method. Start by washing your hair with Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Shampoo and Conditioner, which gently cleanse and moisturize to leave your hair looking thicker and fuller. Next, comb a pea-size amount of Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Elixir through wet hair to add extra body. Twist your wet hair into two buns at the nape of your neck and secure with bobby pins.

After your hair is completely dry, remove the pins and finger comb your hair for perfect beach waves.

Hint: don’t touch your hair while it’s drying. This will help keep your waves from getting frizzy.

4. Overnight Beach Waves

Here’s another easy way to get beach wave curls sans heat. Before bed, work a small amount of Viviscal Densifying Elixir through hair from mid-length to the ends. Separate your hair into multiple sections and braid. For looser waves, braid hair into two large braids. For tighter beach waves, create multiple braids all over your head. In the morning, release the braids and finger comb your hair. Finish with a light mist of texturizing spray.

5. Beach Waves for Short Hair

You do not need long or even medium length hair to get perfect beach waves. Here’s how to rock beach curls with short hair:

  • Divide hair horizontally at the ear level and secure the top section up with a clip.
  • Wrap small sections of the remaining hair around a 1-inch curling wand. Alternate the directions you wrap the sections to give your beach curls a more natural look.
  • Once you’ve finished curling the bottom section of hair, release the top section from the clip and repeat the same curling method.
  • Create face-framing waves by curling small front sections away from the face.
  • Finish by spritzing your hair with a texturizing spray and then scrunch for effortlessly “undone” beach waves.
