So you want to get your hair to grow faster? Not just faster but longer, stronger and even less damaged from all the things you do to it on the regular. (Yes, we’re talking to you, the curling-iron, blow-dryer or hair-color obsessed.)

Hi K! As someone who has been victim to more than one bad haircut, I feel your pain[…] over the years I’ve picked up quite a few tricks that will not only make your hair grow faster, but also healthier. Here’s what I always recommend… just remember that hair typically only grows about 1/4 of an inch to 1/2 an inch max per month, so don’t freak out if you don’t see major results right away. Jamie’s 5 Tricks for Faster Hair Growth
1. Take Supplements
Jamie says: “Back when my hair was suuuuper thin I started taking Viviscal and saw really, really good results.” Jamie says that at first she was not 100% sold on Viviscal. But happily, her skepticism was proved wrong because she soon saw her hair grow thicker than before!
Since then, lots of other hair vitamins and gummies have entered the market and Jamie has tried tons of them. She says she didn’t have amazing results with them, although she admits that maybe she didn’t take them long enough to see the full effects. But at least they tasted delicious!
2. Eat Hair-Boosting Foods
If you don’t eat lots of red meat or even fish, try to add another good source of protein to every meal. If you eat vegetarian, don’t neglect your protein intake or just load up on carbs, dairy and veggies. Eat plenty of eggs, beans, nuts and whole grains too to get enough protein. 3. Take Out Your Hair Extensions
We get it. Your hair is looking thin so you put in a few extensions to give it volume. But then when you take them out, the extensions have damaged your roots and your hair looks worse than ever. This prompts you to want to put them back in, and the cycle never ends!
Jamie says: “Don’t get me wrong, I loooooved having hair extensions but, ya, […]once you take them out you will likely see some damage. Stick to clip-in extensions while you’re growing your natural hair out if you’re feeling the urge.”
Or avoid damage from extensions altogether and try a leave-in volumizing serum such as Viviscal Elixir.
4. Get Your Scalp in Check
When the skin on your scalp is clogged with oils and dirt, it affects hair follicles‘ ability to grow healthy strands. Jamie says: “I’m a big proponent of scalp exfoliation (a big post on that coming soon), but at the very least make sure you’re using a good cleansing shampoo once a week at the bare minimum.”
Clean your scalp and get it back in balance. Treat any ongoing skin issues on your scalp like dandruff or folliculitis. Add a five-minute, invigorating scalp massage three times a week to bring more blood flow to your scalp to feed your follicles. You’ll be set up for hair-growing success!
5. Get Your Hair Trimmed
Jamie says: “I know it seems counter-intuitive but, trust me, I’ve seen my hair grow a LOT faster when I actually take the time to get the split ends cut off.”
Bonus: when you remove the heavy, damaged ends, thin hair actually will look bouncier and have more volume. Go into the salon every six to eight weeks, and tell your stylist to take only as much as they need to in order to remove the bad ends. If you’re going in regularly, that should be no more than about a half-inch every visit.
